A GOLD MOUNTED ROCK CRYSTAL CUP, 19TH CENTURY

This covered rock-crystal cup shares characteristics with certain objects from central Italy - notably Milan and Florence - as well as those from Prague, and more broadly from Bohemia, thanks to the Italian artists who settled in the city from the reign of Rudolf II. The gold mounting can be compared with certain objects made and mounted by Émile Gallé (1846-1904), which he designed in the taste of the 16th and 17th centuries (see Sotheby's, Paris, Hôtel Lambert, Une collection princière, vol. II : Kunstkammer, 12 October 2022, lot 283).

Cette coupe couverte en cristal de roche présente des caractéristiques communes tant avec certaines productions du centre de l’Italie – notamment Milan et Florence – qu’avec celles de Prague, et plus largement de Bohême, grâce aux artistes italiens implantés dans la ville à partir du règne de Rodolphe II. La monture en or peut quant à elle être rapprochée de certains objets réalisés et montés par Émile Gallé (1846-1904) qu’il conçoit dans le goût des XVIe et XVIIe siècle (voir vente Sotheby’s, Paris, Hôtel Lambert, Une collection princière, vol. II : Kunstkammer, 12 octobre 2022, lot 283).
