A GERMAN PARCEL-GILT POMANDER, UNMARKED, EARLY 18TH CENTURY
Shaped oblong, applied with flowers, reeded vines, rocaille scalloped motifs and textured leaves, wave textured straps to the angles, cover and base, with cast acorns and pierced sunflowers each with screw mechanism to reveal a small compartment, the fluted and beaded detachable finial attached by a chain to the side, the base with shaped circular detachable pedestal foot, with lined and fitted gold-tooled leather case

A similar pomander with a glass body, may be seen in H. Meininghaus and C. Habrich, Five Centuries of Scent and Elegant Flaçons , Stuttgart, 1998, p. 96, fig. 111, together with other simpler versions described as fructiform.
