Le tableau est peint sur un panneau de bois préparé, non parqueté. Le sbords latéraux sont biseautés. On constate une bande de toile dans le coin inférieur droit. Le support est stable.
A l'oeil nu, on constate que le tableau a préservé de beaux glacis dans les frondaisons et les feuillages, ceux-ci apportant une belle profondeur à la composition. On constate cependant que les parties brunes du sol au premier-plan ont fait l'objet de reprises ponctuelles, tout comme le bleu de l'étang ainsi que les carnations des personnages à l'arrière-plan. Les bleus des costumes semblent également avoir été remontés. Le tableau est sous un vernis fin et semble avoir bénéficié d'un nettoyage récent.
A l'UV, on constate les éléments susmentionnés, ainsi que des restaurations ponctuelles dans le ciel. La partie inférieure gauche du tableau révèle un départ de fente horizontale ayant fait l'objet d'une restauration (correspondant à la pièce de toile au revers). Une autre est visible du côté droit de la composition, à la hauteur des deux moutons. L'examen révèle également des traces d'ancien vernis le long des bords gauche et inférieur. Le tableau est sinon sous un vernis fin uniforme.
La matière reste stable.
Dans un cadre en bois de style flamand XVIIe (approx. 71 x 85 cm.).

The painting is executed on prepared panel. The lateral edges are bevelled. There is a patch of canvas in the lower right corner to the reverse. The panel remains stable.
The painting presents well in natural light, with the detailing of the foliage and the trees well preserved, this gives a great sense of depth to the composition. There has been some scattered retouching in the ground in the foreground, in the lake and in some of the background figures. The painting is under an even clean varnish and may have recently been cleaned.
Examination under UV light confirms the above. There is further scattered retouching in the sky. In the lower left-hand corner of the panel is a horizontal panel crack (corresponding with the canvas support to the reverse), which has been restored. There is a further crack to the right, near the two sheep. There are traces of old varnish along the lower edge. The paint remains stable.
In a 17th century style Dutch frame (approx. 71 x 85 cm.).
