61 x 53 cm.).
English
The canvas has been subject to wax relining; it is held under tension and remains stable. The keys are held into the chassis with wire. The relining process has flattened the painted surface in areas.
The painting presents well in natural light; the depth colour in the composition, notably in the asparagus, is well preserved. There are some retouchings that can be observed in the background, which have discoloured somewhat over time. The same is true of certain of the still life elements, notably the turnip at lower left. There has been a slight thinning to the upper paint glazes in the leaves in the upper part of the composition and in some of the flowers. The varnish has gone slightly cloudy.
Examination under UV light confirms the above, though the thickness of the varnish precludes an in depth examination of the painting. Certain areas, such as the asparagus and the flowers have been cleaned.
In a giltwood frame (approx. 61 x 53 cm.).
