Le tableau a fait l'objet d'un rentoilage. Le tableau est sur un châssis rapporté. Le support est stable.

A l'oeil nu, le tableau est sous un vernis jauni, sec, voilant quelque peu certaines détails. On constate d'anciennes restaurations dans le fond et sur une partie du fauteuil. Le visage, le costume, les carnations apparaissent dans un assez bon état général de conservation.

A l'UV, le tableau apparaît sous un vernis vert épais uniforme. On constate des traces d'anciennes campagnes de restauration dans les fonds et dans le fauteuil, ainsi que susmentionné. Le visage a fait l'objet de restaurations récentes.

Dans un cadre en bois et stuc dorés du XVIIIe siècle estampillé 'I. BELLE' (approx. 122 x 105 cm.).

The canvas has been subject to relining; it is held under tension and remains stable.

The painting presents well in natural light, with the detailing of the face and costume well preserved. There is evidence of some historic retouching in the background and in the chair. The varnish has yellowed and is quite dry, this would benefit from a light clean.

Examination under UV light confirms the above. There has been some more recent retouching to the sitter’s face. The varnish precludes a more in-depth examination. The paint remains stable.
