COUNT GIORGIO DURANTE (1685-1755), A BUZZARD ATTACKING A CORMORANT; A BUZZARD, OIL ON CANVAS, UNLINED, A PAIR

This impressive pair celebrates all the innate beauty and power of the buzzard. Durante (1685-1755) would have been able to study this bird of prey in the wild in his native Lombardy. Abbot, painter and musician, but above all a knight and count, Durante was undoubtedly a great hunter, to which he owes his perfect knowledge of the anatomy of this noble animal, and his extraordinary ability to paint works that can be seen as true portraits.

Lot Essay
