66 x 56 x 5 cm).
English
The painting is executed on an oval canvas that has been mounted on a chipboard panel, covered on the reverse with canvas. The whole is held under tension on a keyed frame. The whole is stable.
In natural light, the painting has preserved some fine details in the costume. However, the marouflage process has flattened the upper layers of material throughout the composition. The painting has a network of craquelures visible throughout the composition, particularly in the lighter tones. This does not interfere with the reading of the work. There are occasional retouches in the background and the collar, as well as a larger area of retouching in the left-hand part of the collar.
UV examination reveals a large vertical restoration line running through the centre of the composition, indicating that the canvas has probably been folded in the past. There is also a large area of vertical restoration across the centre of the model's face, probably the result of a previous accident. There are also restorations on her cheek, chin and forehead. There has also been a more recent restoration campaign to fill in the cracks and enhance the details of the central vertical restoration and to enhance the details of the red part of the costume. The painting is under a thick varnish that may conceal earlier restoration campaigns.
The material remains stable.
In a gilded wooden frame (approx. 66 x 56 x 5 cm).
