L'ensemble reste stable.
Sans cadre.
English
The painting presents well in natural light, with all the details of the composition well preserved.
The canvas has been subject to relining, it is held under tension on a stretcher and remains stable. The lining process has slightly flattened some of the paint layers, resulting in a loss of the impasto. In a raking light, we can see that there is quite significant canvas pull in areas, suggesting that the relining was too strict.
Examination under UV light shows strengthening to the browns of the architectural support. There is further scattered retouching across the composition, notably in the upper corners, but also in the central silver platter. The varnish has been partially cleaned over the central motifs, with the old varnish remaining most predominantly in the lower half of the composition and along the left-hand edge. There is retouching to each of the canvas edges, a result of historic frame abrasion. The whole remains stable.
Unframed.
