The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

Le tableau est peint sur un panneau d’une planche, non parqueté. Le panneau est droit, ne présentant pas de courbure. L’ensemble est stable.

A l’œil nu, le tableau a préservé de beaux empâtements dans les blancs de la barbe du modèle, ainsi que dans le rendu de ses carnations sur son front.
On constate des retouches ponctuelles ayant viré sur son visage ainsi que des retouches plus importantes ayant également viré dans les fonds. On constate aussi que les poils autour de la bouche du modèle ont été réhaussés. La matière au niveau de la bouche a été quelque peu abrasée, amincissant les couches de matière supérieures.

Le tableau est sous un vernis épais, non homogène, qui empêche de distinguer à l’UV les campagnes de restauration antérieures que l’on devine pourtant à l’œil nu.

La matière reste stable.

Dans un cadre en bois peint noir (approx. 36 x 28,5 x 2 cm) maintenu dans un cadre en bois doré (approx. 48 x 40 x 5,5 cm).

The painting is executed on panel, made up of a single board, this remains flat and stable.

The painting has preserved beautiful impastos in the whites of the model's beard, as well as in the rendering of the skin tones of the forehead.

Some minor scattered retouching can be seen in the face, as well as some more extensive retouching to the backgrounds, these have discoloured with age. We can also see that the hairs around the model's mouth have been strengthened. There has been some thinning in the paint of the mouth.

The painting is under a thick, non-homogeneous varnish, which precludes a correct examination under UV light.

The paint remains stable.

In a black painted wooden frame (approx. 36 x 28.5 x 2 cm) held in a second giltwood frame (approx. 48 x 40 x 5.5 cm).
