Hand-coloured engraved map on 2 joined sheets, title, most cartouches and placenames in French, one cartouche in Latin and one in Dutch, engraved vignettes include: a large view of the Cape of Good Hope set within an elaborate border decorated with monkeys and big cats; a plan of Mexico City surrounded by indigenous scenes and the Spanish Conquest; a triptych of plans and charts of Vera Cruz, Rio de Janeiro and Havana; small inset charts of Porto Bello, Isthmus of Panama, and the Straits of Gibraltar; with the routes of Magellan and the trade route from Europe to south-east Asia, via Mexico and the west coast of north America, 590 x 920mm.
