Lot Essay

Carolina Rubio-Bowater was born in the UK in 1973 to a Spanish father and an English mother. She lived in Madrid for most of her childhood before moving to upstate New York until the age of 14. She then moved to Surrey where she attended TASIS International School and graduated with honours in Art.

Rubio-Bowater attended the then American College of London where she completed a BA in Commercial Art, Graphic Design and an AA in Interior Design.

By the time Rubio-Bowater graduated, she had already done her first interior project. After that it was property developing and selling her art. She has successfully sold art for the last 20 years. Her love of travel and nature give her inspiration. She thinks her very colourful, international life, especially in her twenties has had an effect on her style of painting.

She is married to a New Zealander and after 20 years living in Chelsea and then Notting Hill, they moved out to Henley-on-Thames five years ago. She has two boys and they are her everything.
