Lot Essay

This ring is cast with a pointed oval bezel, slightly beveled on the underside. The wide hoop is slightly rounded on the interior and exterior. The bezel is engraved with a draped woman riding a horse to the left. There is a gold stud hammered into the lower left of the bezel.
A woman riding a horse is unusual on Greek rings. For the style compare the gold ring in Boston with a Nereid riding a hippocamp, no. Cbb29 in H.C.L. Wiegandt, Die griechischen Siegel klassischer Zeit.
