Lot Essay

The brown pebbled leather was molded into sets of toes, producing a bizarre trompe l'oeil effect. These shoes are very rare and have inspired artists such as Pierre Le-Tan who illustrated them and French sculptor César Baldaccini who has been photographed holding Peñafiel's creation.
