Details
With a domed cover and domed base, spirally-moulded with scale and line ornament radiating from central circular panels, the cover interior painted with Harlequin from the Commedia dell’Arte with his arm around a young woman, possibly Mezzetin and an old man, possibly Pantalone from the Commedia dell’Arte, looking on, the trees and sky behind them rendered in sepia, the edge of the scene gilt with zo (?) at 10 o’clock, the box interior richly gilt, the mount chased with scrolling foliage and with a foliate-scroll thumbpiece
