The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
An XRF test conducted by Cranfield University noted levels of zinc in the green enamel which is thought to be (typically) consistent with a dating to the second half of the 18th century, although an earlier date of circa 1735-40 is not impossible.
Condition:
Overall this box is in good condition. There are some slight hairline cracks to the sides of the cover to the top side, the bottom side and to the left side – these are barely noticeable, and they are presumably only the glaze, as they are not visible on the interior. There are some very slight areas of wear to the gilding on the sides, particularly by the projecting area at the front – but these are also very minor.
