Lot Essay

This figure is one of a number of variations of this model, in which a cook is depicted holding a pan, a dish or a pie. Kändler's Work Report of July 1747 mentions 'a figure in the shape of a cook, modelled in clay for the prince of Dessau. He is depicted in white jacket with a wraparound apron, as he carries a pie in a bowl', see Vanessa Sigalas and Meredith Chilton, All Walks of Life, A Journey with The Alan Shimmerman Collection, Stuttgart, 2022, p. 201 and see also cat. nos. 47 and 48 for two variations on this model.
