Lot Essay

For a figure of Perriot in the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, see Ulrich Pietsch, Meiβner Porzellanplastick von Gottlieb Kirchner und Johann Joachim Kaendler, Munich, 2006, pp. 74-75, cat. no. 103. Pietsch illustrates George Friedrich Schmidt's engraving titled 'Le Theatre Italien', after Nicolas Lancret's painting, which depicts Pierrot standing before a troupe of commedia dell'arte characters in a pose similar to the present model.
