The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The Tailor -- restoration to front of his hat at brim. Broken through right wrist and restored. His right shoulder with clear lacquer, though it does not appear to be broken through. Right side of reins broken and restored, and to the other side above cloth rolls. Goat horns broken and restored. Chipping and small losses to items in carriers to goat's shoulder harness. One lock of goat hair to front of his body broken and restored. Chipping, losses and restorations to applied leaves and flowers.
The tailor's wife - goat broken through at his right hindleg and restuck. Cracks to underside of base, and chipping to edge of base at underside. Small chipping, losses and restorations to applied leaves and flowers.
Both groups with slight wear to gilding and enamels, occasional small flake, minute chip, firing flaw or surface abrasion throughout.
An XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) test was carried out by The Centre for Archaeological and Forensic Analysis at Cranfield University, confirming that the enamels on these objects are consistent with the published data for enamels on other Meissen porcelain dating from the 18th century.
