Designated a Living National Treasure in 1956, Serizawa Keisuke became recognised as a masterful textile designer using traditional stencil-dyeing techniques and often working with large-scale projects such as kimonos, noren and folding screens. Characterised by bright yet warm colours of vegetable dyes and bold designs, his powerful work is widely appreciated for being ground breaking as an art form using traditional textile techniques.
