Lot Essay

Conceived in 1959, Cradle Song is "one of Robus' final expressions of a mother with her child...A plaster model was sent to the Fonderia Battaglia in Milan, Italy, during November 1959" (R.K. Tarbell, Hugo Robus (1885-1964), Washington D.C., 1980, p. 219). The present work is one of three known casts.
