Lot Essay

Flamingo was painted in the latter part of 1970, a year after Moon destroyed a whole series of large paintings executed in the summer of 1969. Moon's 1970 works tend to appear unstructured, however, Flamingo is painted with great geometric basis with its pink spreading oblique grid lines. The present work links closely to the works that would characterise his paintings towards the end of his life.
