The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

Oil on canvas. Not examined out of the frame. The upper edge with six artist's pinholes; and one to the lower left and lower right corners of the canvas. On very close examination, some fine craquelure to the left of the hair. A small paint loss to the sitter's right lapel. Light surface dirt. Examined under UV light, there are some small spots of fluorescence to the upper section, and a vertical fine line of fluorescence to the right of the canvas; these both appear to be surface dirt and not retouchings. Subject to the above, it is our opinion that the work appears to be in generally good overall condition.
