拍品专文

John Skelton was Eric Gill's nephew and did his apprenticeship with Gill at Pigotts, Buckinghamshire, in 1940. After Gill's death, Skelton continued to work with Joseph Cribb, Gill's assistant at Ditchling Common.

Skelton received many lettering and memorial commissions, including a set of plaques commemorating the 10 Allied Field Marshals of the Second World War, in St Paul's Cathedral, London. He also designed and made the memorial to Ivor Novello in St Paul's, and the font for Chichester Cathedral.
