Lot Essay

Louis Süe and André Mare's attirubtedcommode infuses classicism into Art Deco. Stencil-decorated by Paul Vera, the commode depicts the Judgment of Paris, a story from Greek mythology in which Paris was faced with an impossible task, to choose the most beautiful goddess. Deciding between Juno, Minerva, or Venus, Paris chose Venus, seen on related commode by Süe and Mare, with a golden apple.
