Lot Essay

Georges Champion promoted Modern design with clean lines and beautiful materials while building a strong presence in the Parisian design circle. He exhibited at many of the famous salons of the 1920s including the 1925 Paris Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes and the 1937 Paris Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne, in which he won a gold medal. In 1928 Champion became artistic director of Studio Gué, the decorating department of the Parisian firm Georges et Gaston Guerin. Two years later he opened Atelier 75. He supported the work of young artists and designers throughout his career and published their works in L'Art Vivant, which he managed alongside Jacques Guenne.
