Lot Essay

The present lot is a detail from 'Karneval', a tapestry designed by Marianne Richter in 1961 for Märta Måås-Fjetterström AB, Båstad, Sweden. Richter enjoyed making variations in her designs, including that of 'Karneval'. The original tapestry measured 10814 x 6334 in. (275 x 162 cm), significantly larger than the present lot at 88 x 4914 in. (223.5 x 125.1 cm). By nature of her techniques, each work becomes a unique variation.
