Austrian born designer Lucie Rie fled to England at the start of the Second World War, bringing with her essential tools, a few pots, and elements of her beloved interior, designed by Ernst Plischke. The open shelving designed by Plischke that lived in her English home and studio allowed Rie to proudly present her exploration of ceramics and the chemistry of glazes, which were on display for all visitors to her studio. The present lot and the preceding lot 75 were purchased during a studio visit in which Rie welcomed visitors into her home for tea and they left with beautiful souvenirs.

Overall very good condition. The bowl presents as very slightly out of round and with a few potting imperfections, exhibiting as a thin line indentation visible to one side. Presents with scattered irregularities to the glaze, inherent to the firing process. The foot rim with two minute frits. With light wear to the extreme edges, commensurate with gentle handling. Presents well, ready for display.
