Lot Essay

Prominent banker Dr. Karl Hertzfeld of Hanover commissioned Walter Gropius in 1913 to furnish his home following his marriage. Designed en suite, a large cabinet with drawers bearing the same beautiful fluting is now in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, acc. no. W.35:1 to 5-1984.
