Rare and Early 'Hammersmith' Rug with 'Flowerpot' design, circa 1878-1881

Overall very good condition considering age and use. With sporadic moth damage throughout, visible to the eye and more significant to the foundation in the lower right quadrant. Both ends present with the original end finish stabilized with an added fringe and original selvedge on both sides, slightly loose in the lower right quadrant. With natural abrash to the shades of reds, possibly intentional. The piece would benefit greatly from professional cleaning. A rare and historic example.
