The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas, stretcher and attachments appear to be in generally good condition. The canvas undulates slightly. There is minor rubbing to the extreme corners and edges with associated scattered pinpoint paint losses. There are media splashes in places, predominantly to the lower half of the composition, presumably in keeping with the artist’s working method. There are fine drying cracks in places, with an associated pinpoint paint loss to the upper left quadrant. There are two minor linear abrasions near the centre of the left and right vertical edges. When examined under ultraviolet light, there is no evidence of any retouching. Subject to the foregoing, it is our view that the work appears to be in generally good condition.
