The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Not examined out of frame. There are some minor losses to the artist’s frame in places. The canvas, stretcher and attachments appear to be in generally good condition. The edges of the canvas are covered by the frame. There is a minor repaired tear to the upper left quadrant. There are some linear rubbing marks near the centre of the upper horizontal edge. There is a pinpoint accretion near the centre of the lower horizontal edge. There are minor media splashes in places to the left half of the composition. There are minor inconsistencies in places to the gold leaf, presumably in keeping with the artist’s chosen medium. When examined under ultraviolet light there appears to be no evidence of retouching. Subject to the foregoing it is our view that the work appears to be in generally good condition.
