Lot Essay

The World of Shells is a work on paper coming from the Collection of the Zulficar family, a noble family in Alexandria who are the descendants of Youssef Zulficar Pacha (1866-1952), a judge and the Vice-President of Alexandria’s Mixed Courts of Appeals and Zeinab Saïd, one of Mahmoud Saïd’s sisters, who was a lady-in-waiting to Queen Nazli and whose father was an Egyptian Prime Minister. Their daughter, Safinaz Zulficar also became Queen Farida when she married King Farouk I on 20 January 1938.
