The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This canvas has a glue relining and is firmly stretched. The paint layer is stable under a varnish that has yellowed with age. Minor frame abrasions and associated retouching are visible on all four edges, but are largely hidden by the frame. There appears to be scattered strengthening through the foliage where some of the greens and darks have lost a little definition, which is visible on close inspection but does not detract from the image overall. A clear reading under ultraviolet light is hindered by the varnish, which is slightly milky though scattered strokes of retouching can be seen in the foliage and the tree trunk at right, in the sky notably at upper left. Possible strengthening to the dog and deer in the middle background can be seen. The painting is ready to hang and is offered in a carved and elaborate giltwood frame.
