The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This canvas is securely supported on the reverse by a glue lining. The paint layer is stable, under a slightly yellowed varnish with an uneven craquelure throughout. Frame abrasions and scuffing are visible on all four edges, but are largely hidden by the frame. In natural light, pinpricks of dirt are visible in the figure's torso and robe. Two minor paint losses are visible, one in the lower left and the other at upper center just above the figure's hairline. In the blue background, inpainting in the craquelure is visible in order to minimize the effect of the craquelure. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the aforementioned inpainting, but the varnish has been applied in streaks and prevents further observation. The painting presents well and is offered in a carved and giltwood frame.
