The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This panel is made up of a single unbeveled board with a horizontal grain. The paint layer is stable under a varnish that has slightly yellowed with age, with a very fine and uneven craquelure throughout. Minor frame abrasions and associated scuffing are visible on all four edges, but are largely hidden by the frame. Dark areas of the fore and middle ground such as the leaves, branches and rocks have been strengthened to address sunken dark pigments. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the aforementioned restoration, but further inspection is hindered by an opaque varnish. The painting is ready to hang in its present state or could benefit from a light clean and re-varnish according to taste. The painting is offered in a carved and giltwood frame.
