Lot Essay

Compare the present bronze with a similar work, likely from the same atelier, in the collection of the National Gallery of Australia, illustrated by J. Menzies in Buddha: Radiant Awakening, Sydney, 2001, p. 44, cat. no. 27; both stand on a tall waisted lotus base, with the rippling folds of the drapery falling down the torso.
