Lot Essay

Super cold gases vented by the Apollo 17 Saturn V’s propellants trace a delicate pattern against the night sky during the final moments of the “wet” portion of the Apollo 17 Countdown Demonstration Test (CDDT) here last night. A simulated ignition and lift off of the fully fuelled space vehicle was reached at 9:53 p.m. The “dry” portion of the test was successfully completed here tonight with the Saturn V unfuelled and the prime crew participating as they will on launch night. Successful completion of the week-long CDDT cleared the way for the launch of Apollo 17 at 9:53 p.m. EST December 6.
