THE COMMAND MODULE AMERICA WITH ALL FIVE WINDOWS FACING THE MOON, DECEMBER 7-19, 1972; ONE OF FIVE APOLLO 17 PHOTOS
[1] The Command Service Module is seen preparing to rendezvous with the Lunar Module with the moon in the background. The golden reflection of the lunar surface and the dark reflection of the black sky of space are clearly visible on the CSM. The photograph was taken with the 60mm lens looking southeast over the south-eastern Sea of Serenity showing the 16-km deep and 1.7 km wide Crater Bessel. On the lunar horizon, the Taurus Littrow landing site is hidden by the spacecraft. Latitude / Longitude: 22° N / 22° E.
[2] This superb photograph was taken from the Lunar Module of the moon, showing the prominent craters in the lunar surface.
[3] A superb frame of the panoramic sequence taken by Cernan upslope from Tracy’s Rock. Schmitt carries the gnomon after sampling and collecting fragments of the split boulder. “At the far right of the photograph, just above the rock, the astronauts’ LM Challenger can be seen as a distant speck sitting at the right edge of the lighter area” (Reynolds, p.208). The East Massif (left) and Bear Mountain (right) form the skyline in the background. 165:33:38 Cernan: I just got to get a place I can get a pan from. Right here. Right in this little hole. (Pause) (Gesturing) Okay, now I left the gnomon down there. 165:33:50 Schmitt: Okay. I’ll have to go get it. (Pause) I think we’ll set up right here near the Rover.
[4] Schmitt holds the 500mm lens Hasselblad in his hand. He is leaning on the boulder for stability in order to take telephotographs. The Lunar Rover is in the foreground. 165:43:48 Schmitt: How am I going to see up there to shoot this thing? 165:43:52 Cernan: Well, why don’t you lean against the rock? Go over there and lean against it.
[5] The Tranquility Base and American flag on the lunar surface, photographed from the Lunar Module window.

Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
[1] Overall very good condition with signs commensurate with age, noting bumped margins and corners with a partial tear above the NASA seal number. The verso is in excellent condition.
[2] Overall very good condition with bumped margins and corners. There is a ring measuring 1cm by 0.5cm of craquelure just above the crater in the image. The verso is in excellent condition.
[3] Overall very good condition with signs commensurate with age, noting slight indentations and fingerprints seen in raking light. There is slight splatter staining on the margin although this is likely not to be visible once framed. The verso has a small area of staining but is otherwise in very good condition.
[4] Overall good condition with signs commensurate with age, noting minor indentations that are predominantly in the margins on the recto. Slightly bumped corners and margins and the NASA seal number is partially visible although still legible due to being printed beyond the confines of the photograph. There are five circles of craquelure on the top margin, the largest measuring 1.3 x 1.7cm and smallest measuring 0.5 x 0.9cm. The verso is in excellent condition with one small orange stain on the margin.
[5] Overall very good condition of the recto with signs in keeping with the age of the print, noting bumped corners and margins. There are three circular areas of craquelure on the bottom right of the image, the largest measuring 0.7 x 1.6cm. The verso is in excellent condition.
