Apollo 9 Command Module Pilot David R. Scott undergoes spacesuit integrity checks prior to his launch today with Commander James A. McDivitt and Lunar Module Pilot Russell L. Schweickart. The astronauts will be launched by an Apollo/Saturn V space vehicle to test the lunar module spacecraft in earth orbit. This spacecraft is similar to the type that will land American astronauts on the Moon. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration directs the Apollo program.
