Astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell, Apollo 14 Lunar Module pilot, carries the thumper device which he initiated into use during the first Apollo 14 extravehicular activity (EVA-1) on the lunar surface. Astronaut Alan B. Shepard Jr., mission commander, walks near deployed components of the Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package (ALSEP) in background. This photo was taken by an automatic 16mm camera mounted on extension on the Apollo Modularized Equipment Transporter (MET).
