The launch of Apollo 16 on April 16, 1972 at 12:54 p.m. EST from Launch Complex 16, Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The spacecraft carried two command modules, one going to the moon and one going to lunar orbit. It also carried one of the Lunar Roving Vehicles, with astronauts John W. Young, commander; Charles M. Duke Jr., Lunar Module pilot; and Thomas K. Mattingly II, Command Module pilot.
