A two-stage Saturn 1B rocket carrying the Skylab 4 astronauts lifted off from Launch Complex 39B at 9:01 a.m. EST November 16, 1973, on the first leg of the third and final mission to the orbiting space station, berthed 270 miles above Earth. The crew flying in space for the first time consists of Gerald P. Carr, mission commander; Dr. Edward G. Gibson, science pilot; and William R. Pogue, pilot. They are scheduled to remain aloft 66 days during this open-ended mission, which could be extended to 85 days if ground controllers give the go-ahead. The astronauts will continue experiments conducted by two precious crews in the solar physics, Earth resources and medical areas.

Overall excellent condition with signs commensurate with age, noting minor indentations in the recto and signs of silvering at the top of the image, the bottom right and the bottom left. There is a stain on the right margin and the top margin, although the latter appears to be a printing defect. Neither of which would be seen if framed without the margins. The verso has one small red stain on the left and the caption is very faded, making it illegible in places although the date and the NASA image ID are still visible.
