Space Shuttle Challenger with its cargo bay doors open in space during the mission STS-7 which lasted from June 18 to June 24, 1983.

After the Apollo missions, the Space Shuttle was created which was the first reusable spacecraft that could take off like a rocket but land similarly to an aeroplane. The objectives of the Space Shuttle was to carry people into orbit, conduct new research and build the International Space Station. It first launched on April 12, 1981 and the last landing was July 21, 2011 having flown 135 missions.
