Lot Essay

Mrs. Thatcher appears in numerous photographs wearing the 'pearl' mounted brooch dating prior to her election as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in 1979. Most notably perhaps, she appears wearing it in a series of photographs taken by the celebrated photographer, Yousuf Karsh, one of which, taken circa 1976, in the House of Commons, is held in the collection of The National Portrait Gallery, London.
