Mrs Thatcher wore, what is almost certainly this brooch during her groundbreaking meeting with Mikhail Gorbachev at Chequers on 16 December 1984.
This brooch is one of at least three of this type known to have been owned by Mrs Thatcher. They were given to her as official gifts on visiting Japan. One of the brooches sold in Mrs Thatcher, Part I, Christie's, London, 15 December 2015 (£6,250). See also lot 42 in this sale.
