Lot Essay

The sapphire blue suit was a staple of Mrs. Thatcher's wardrobe. This suit was worn frequently by Mrs. Thatcher towards the end of her tenure as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (1979-1990), and several photographs exist of her wearing it. It has been suggested that she may have worn this suit on her last day sitting in the House of Commons in 1992, however, it has not been possible to verify this. Lady Thatcher was subsequently pictured wearing what is almost certainly this suit during a speech in the House of Lords.
