The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas, stretcher and attachments appear to be in generally good condition. There is minute rubbing to the lower corners. There is a pinpoint handling mark to the extreme upper horizontal edge. There are some faint spots of discolouration in places to the paper surface, presumably in keeping with the artist’s working method. There are loose threads in places, in keeping with the artist’s intent. There is a pinpoint loss to the extreme lower edge of the paper layer in the lower left quadrant. When examined under ultra-violet light, there appear to be no indication of inpainting. Subject to the foregoing, it is our view that the work appears in generally very good condition.
