Lot Essay

Sarköy kilims originate in the historical Balkan region immediately west of the Bosporus, in the area of Thrace, which relates to parts of modern-day Greece, Bulgaria and European Turkey. For centuries this area was a cultural and ethnic melting pot, most recently under the Ottoman empire. These accomplished pieces are instantly identifiable by their highly stylised, abstract designs, woven in a bold and vibrant colour range with a particular emphasis on the use of green.
