This sheet appears to date from Palmer's Welsh tour of 1835, and stylistically relates to other sheets such as At Ffestiniog, North Wales(Lister 231, Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery), and Mill at Torrent Walk, near Dolgellau, North Wales(Lister 223, National Gallery of Canada). By the mid 1830s the intensity of Palmer's vision was fading, and his work becoming more direcly representational. His trip to Wales was to seek new inspiration and he produced drawings of both the dramatic landscapes and idyllic cottage and village scenes.
