Although not directly preparatory for any painting, the position of the woman in this study – standing, facing the viewer, with her hand across her chest – can be related to Pandora, a canvas dated 1890 in a private collection (D. Bartoli, with F. Ross, William Bouguereau. Catalogue Raisonné of his Painted Work, New York, 2010, no. 1890/15, ill.).
